Space occupies a prominent place in much of Job Koelewijn’s work. Through interventions in a space – sometimes by means of odours, sometimes by means of physical interventions – the viewer becomes aware of the surrounding space. In the case of the magazine rack for Vedute, the viewer’s gaze is, by contrast, directed inwards. The rack is covered with a skin of magnifying glasses, which magnify, but also fragment, the space inside. The news that is contained inside in the form of a newspaper or magazine is also magnified and fragmented. A metaphor that makes the viewer aware of the fact that news is always subjective and incomplete.
