Bas Princen
Artist

Initially, Bas Princen wanted to build a maquette and let himself be led by his background as an architect. During a study tour of Egypt, where he visited the Nile Delta and the area around Cairo, he photographed many buildings in the former sugar cane plantations of Boulak. When he returned home and went through the hundreds of negatives, he discovered a photograph of a building that closely resembled the scale of Vedute. When he calculated the building volume, he ascertained that it was approximately 100 times the dimensions of the manuscript. The negative was so printed that the building in the photograph measures 44 x 32 x 7 cms.
