‘When we live in the city of our choice, we will discover that it is necessary to transfer messages to and receive messages from others. In the same way that we are in communication with each other, and as such are of assistance to each other and alleviate each other’s solitude, so one part of the city seeks to connect with the other, because that is the only way that it, too, is able to exist. As a result, a network of connections comes into being in the city. And always there is the traffic of messages transmitted and received. And there are those who say that the intensity of this traffic reflects the city’s vigour.’
